Night Out for Children…..
It seems like there is one great cause after another who are raising money here in the Cedar City area. The local restaurants are stepping up to assist the Youth Volunteer Corps with their Night out for Children. The aim for this event is battle childhood hunger. This is another very worthy cause.
I want to send a shout out to all of the local restaurants that are participating, I am going to list them. In no particular order: Chili’s, Pizza Hut, All American Diner, Sonny Boy’s Barbecue, Costa Vida, Denny’s, and Panda Express. All of these great eatery’s are donating a portion of their proceeds towards this great cause.
This is taking place all day tomorrow April 17th. So it really doesn’t matter what you’re hungry for, there is a participating restaurant! This is a great cause, even with the economic problems that this great country has been going through, we are still way too great a country to allow children to go hungry!!!!
Shout Out to Chili’s For Helping With the Relay for Life….
I have been giving shout outs to the local businesses which have been assisting with our local Relay for Life in the fight against cancer. This week it is Chili’s who is stepping up and assisting. On Thursday, April 12, from 11 AM to 10 PM, Chili’s will donate 15% of the proceeds to Relay for Life.
I really do appreciate it when businesses, even chain type businesses, realize that they are part of a community and gets involved in great causes! To me, it is really what makes a community into a desirable place to live.
This is an important cause, so if you’re hungry for some food at Chili’s go on over and enjoy some good food and a good time. There is one catch you need to get a coupon from a supporting location, like say, RE/Max Velocity. While you’re here, we have some great deals on some great houses!
Season Ending Concert…
The Cedar City Music Arts season is concluding with the finale concert tomorrow, Wednesday evening. This concert will feature the quartet New York Polyphony. They are a classical quartet, meaning that Classical Music is at the heart of their reperotoie, they sing music from other periods as well.
New York Polyphony has received critical acclaim and is really a big deal to end the concert season here in Cedar City. For ticket information contact the Heritage Center Box Office at 435-865-2882. Tickets are $30 for adults at $15 for students. This should be a great opportunity to see New York Polyphony!
SUU is Hosting a Conference on Human Trafficking…..
Southern Utah University is hosting a 3 Day Conferences discussing Human Trafficking. This is something that I knew existed, but quite honestly had no idea the scale to which it continues to exist. In conjunction with the Conference which begins on Wednesday, Tuesday’s Convocation Series will feature Anuradha Koirala as its speaker. She is CNN’s 2010 Hero of the year and founder of Maiti Nepal, which has rescued over 12,000 girls from being trafficked into the sex trade.
As despicable as the actions of this conferences theme, it is equally important! This is the 21st century, and it is time that this stop! One of the things that I read in the article announcing this conference is that this is actually a local issue, here in Utah, the Salt Lake City Police Department investigates 1 complaint a week, that right, a week!, of victims that have been involved in some sort of Human Trafficking! The criminal statistic in the US state that over 100,000 people are victims of human trafficking each year, it is one of the fastest growing criminal enterprises in the United States!
The Conference begins on Wednesday and will run through Friday. It is primarily for students, but the public is invited to attend as well. There will be a discount for residents of Iron County. For more information: www.suu.edu/academics/studyabroad/conference.

Easter Egg Hunting Options
The Easter Egg Hunts in the Cedar City area actually began tonight at 8 PM at Park Discovery with an Easter Egg hunt for teenagers. These eggs actually had some really nice prizes, like gift cards worth $50 or $100. It will be a flashlight hunt, so it really should be fun for the teenagers.
The Easter Egg Hunts for Children will be held at 9 AM at the Main Street Park in Cedar City and also at the Enoch City Office Building. These should be a lot of fun for the youngsters, and the weather is supposed to be warm, so it should really be a fun time.
At 10 AM the Parowan Easter Egg Hunt will be held at Valentines Peak. Again the weather should be really nice so it should be a lot of fun for the children.
Throw a “Strike” Against Cancer…
One of the great things to see in any community is how the community supports important causes. It is heartening to witness the outpouring from the community over the Relay for Life. The goal of Relay for Life is to raise funds to help eradicate cancer. I wrote a post the other day about Sonny Boy’s Barbecue jumping right into this great cause. I am happy to say that they aren’t the only business to jump right in and help.
On Saturday April 7th you can throw a strike at cancer at the Cedar Bowling Center, 421 East Old Highway 91, Cedar City. From 11 AM to 5 PM you can bowl for $9.99 per person, half of the proceeds will go to the Relay for Life. What a great Saturday activity for the entire family; and you will be helping a great cause!
So bring your family and friends and throw a strike against Cancer! I will let you in on a local secret…Cedar Bowling Center has the best hamburgers in town! So you won’t even need to bring a lunch, just come on in have some fun!

Come and Eat Great Food and Help a Great Cause!!
Sonny Boy’s Barbecue located at 126 North Main Street in Cedar City (http://www.sonnyboysbbq.com) is getting involved in a wonderful cause. On April 5th, from 5 to 7 PM, Sony Boy’s will donate 10% of all of their proceeds during those two hours to our local Relay for Life. This is the main event in the Cedar City area to raise money for the cure for Cancer. Sonny Boy’s was one of my favorite places to eat before I learned that they were willing to assist in this great cause.
Unfortunately, Cancer is something that has or will touch everyone. I would dare say that everyone who reads this post knows and or loves someone who has been afflicted with cancer. In my case it is both and way too many times over. It is time that we put this horrible disease behind us! The only way to put this horrible disease behind us is to research a cure, which of course, takes a lot of money. Thanks to Sonny Boy’s and others for their generosity!
Please come out and support a great cause! I am proud to say that RE/Max Velocity will have a team in the Relay for Life. It is a great cause!

Cedar City Localism Post…Laps for Life
This really is the Season when we tend to give more than at other times of the year, and there are some activities going on that are really worthwhile. I don’t normally blog about things that I feel are somewhat frivolous. When you start doing things to try to cure Cancer or to help those in need, rather it is from Cancer or other reasons to me, those are worthwhile endeavors.
Laps for Life similar to the Relay for Life where participants will camp at the Aquatic Center (2090 W Royal Hunte Dr, Cedar City) beginning 7:00pm Friday and will end 9:00am Saturday swimming laps all night. There will be entertainment and fundraising going on all through the night.
If you can swim or know someone who is swimming in this great cause, it is definitely worth donating to!
